Peek at my Week!

 Here are my plans this week! I didn’t do anything fancy with many picture or links! And unfortunately, I am out for 2 days in a row this week for training, so that really threw a wrench into things. Also, don’t pay attention to my Friday. I usually play catch up/reteach on Fridays AND we have a long assembly that day. :)

Elmer the Elephant Math & Literacy

Elmer the Elephant Math and Literacy Integrated
 These are seriously my new favorite books! I had NEVER heard of Elmer the Elephant until a couple weeks ago when my teammate brought her son’s books up. I fell in love! So I made this Elmer Math & Literacy unit. I think the Elmer books are a great way to teach many different skills- Text Connections, Adjectives, Character Analysis, Colors… it goes on and on!

Photo Writing Prompt Cards

These are real photo writing prompt cards to help your students get their thinking started during independent writing stations or centers. Each photo is clearly labeled. These photo writing prompt cards can also be sorted by category.
Here is how I have my cards set up in my room. I laminated and hole punched the photo writing prompt cards. Then I put them on a ring and divided the pictures by the header cards.

I don’t know about you, but I love reading Kevin Henkes books to my students. The kids really seem to connect to the characters and their thinking really grows with the books. These books can be used for all kinds of reading skills and strategies: making connections, character analysis, comparing and contrasting, adjectives, descriptive writing, and (one of my faves) author’s message.
