Monday Made-It: mugs, Table Captains, and chalkboard

Last week I made some *adorable* back to school gifts for my team. I followed a tutorial from Design Mom and they turned out GREAT!

I printed an outline of each initial I wanted to do. Then, I colored the back of the letters with a pencil. Next, I taped the letter to my mug. I traced over the letter and pressed very hard so that the outline would transfer with the pencil I colored on the back.
Next, I traced the outline of the letter with a paint marker from Michael’s. I then colored some diagonal lines inside the letter for a sketchy look.
They sat for 4 hours and then to finish up, I baked them in the oven for 40 minutes at 375 degrees. The directions for the pen I bought said not to preheat the oven and to let the mugs cool off in the oven with the door open.
After they finished cooling, I stuffed them with candy and pencils, put them in a cellophane bag and tied it with a pretty little polka dot ribbon. I can’t wait to give it to them!

Last week I posted about these cute little cones I found at the dollar store. Well, I decided to make them into Table Captain Cones.
2 years ago I had a foam hand that was passed around on student desks, but that got torn up and had to be replaced every 6 weeks or so.
Last year I just had a spot on my board where I wrote their names each week, but that got old and a lot of times we (me and the kids) would all forget to change the names from week to week.
So these little cones just felt PERFECT :)
I printed off the labels on cardstock, laminated them, and hot glued them on. Easy peasy!
I can’t wait to see these in the classroom!

I also made a little chalkboard for my students to take pictures with on important school days (first day, 100th day, last day, etc). I originally wanted to make a frame, but that wasn’t really in the budget! I got the little chalkboard at Joann’s with a coupon and the two little cut outs were only 59 cents each at Joann’s. Cute, simple, and it will serve it’s purpose :)

I was so excited when I saw that Mrs. Patton from Mrs. Patton’s Patch was from the same area as me. I knew that I just HAD to contact her to see if she wanted to plan a meet up!  Luckily, she did! :)
So we put our heads together and with a dozen or so emails back and forth, our North Texas Meet Up was born!
Isn’t Mrs. Patton’s graphic up there just the cutest?
If you want to travel to the DFW area, or already live here, come and meet up with us!
We’ve already picked out a delicious place to hang out and we have some amazing swag from some SUPERSTAR bloggers and TPT sellers.
If you are interested, please contact me (Mrs. Thompson!) at
adventures.inteaching@yahoo.com
for all the details.

Seriously, you won’t want to miss out on this! Can’t wait to meet all of you North Texas teachers! :)

  1. oh my! those mugs are sooooo cute and seem so easy! Thanks for sharing.

I will check on that date for the meet up. I think, but not sure I am meeting my sixth grade parents that day. I am in the Austin area actually, but straight up I35 and I'm there!! I will let you know. Thanks for the invite!!

  2. I love those mugs! I saved the tutorial in my favorites, because I'm pretty sure I'm makin' those for Christmas presents. I live in Austin, and I'm thinking about making the trek up 35 to meet y'all. That would be fabulous, but I'm going to have to email you for the details. It all depends on the time and childcare for me. :) Thanks for organizing it!
