Classroom Expectations/Rules

I have started thinking about what my classroom rules for the year are going to be. This will be my second year teaching, and last year I started in October, so this is my first first day of school! (eek!)
{Although, I was thinking last night and it is kind of nice already knowing where I want them to be before deciding all the beginning of year stuff!}

Anyway, I want to know what your classroom rules are. Here is what I am thinking about for mine:
Class Expectations
I will…
1. Follow directions
2. Speak kindly and with permission
3. Keep my hands, feet, and other objects to myself
4. Be respectful and responsible
5. Try my best
I like the idea of putting them into a positive tone. Is 5 too many? I don’t think it is, but I was wondering what some of my fellow bloggers thought.
I can’t wait to read all of your individual classroom rules/expectations! It is fun learning what other people do in their classrooms.

  1. We call them expectations instead of rules. It's what I expect of them, not a rule they have to follow. (These were schoolwide, but I adapted it for my younger kiddos.)
    1. Be in the listening position, ready to learn.
    2. Bring all of your materials everyday.
    3. Don't say mean words, bad words, or tease people.
    4. Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
    5. Follow the directions of all the grown-ups at school.

  2. I knew there was a reason I posted this before I printed it out! I like 'expectations' instead of 'rules'. I just forgot! :) Thanks Mrs. Pollard!

  3. I like the idea of calling them classroom expectations instead of rules. I call it our 'Classroom Promise' and we decide on rules together (I give strong hints to push them towards certain rules, lol). After we make our list (interactive writing), we all sign the promise.

  4. I like them! On my rule #1, I just add "the first time," haha! Gotta love the kiddos that require a personal invitation from you to follow directions! :)
